Introducing OPSM’s Newest Collegiate Advisor: Tracy Akiror

Strong mentorship can make all the difference in an athlete’s development. At OPSM, our collegiate advisors are mentors who have stood in the same pitch, faced the same decisions, and navigated the same transitions. Their experience allows them to provide guidance at every stage of the process.

In this feature, we introduce Tracy Akiror, a new female collegiate advisor. With playing experience at competitive college programs and at the national team level, she has navigated the challenges of high-level soccer firsthand. Tracy’s journey has given her a deep understanding of what it takes to succeed both on and off the field, and she now brings that insight to guide the next generation of athletes through the recruitment process.

What inspired you to become a collegiate advisor?

I am a very passionate soccer athlete, and having the opportunity to work in an environment that aligns with something I truly love feels like a blessing. Another thing that inspired me is seeing how many athletes lack direction simply because they didn’t have the right guidance when making important decisions. If I can offer my knowledge and experience to help an athlete choose the right path, that’s something I would be very proud of.

What is your history in collegiate sports and/or at the professional level?

I have played for competitive colleges throughout my collegiate career, which allowed me to compete against high-level players and gain valuable experience. I’m still a very active athlete. I also had the honor of representing my home country on the national team. Competing in high-level tournaments against strong women’s soccer nations gave me tremendous exposure and growth as both a player and a person, an experience I’m incredibly grateful for.

What was your recruiting journey as a player like?

My recruiting journey wasn’t entirely smooth. There were moments of doubt and uncertainty about whether I was making the right decisions or choosing the right school. However, I was fortunate to be guided by great mentors who helped me navigate the process and make confident choices. Those experiences shaped me and ultimately led me to where I am today.

What is your process when trying to find a school that fits an athlete?

I always prioritize the athlete first. My goal isn’t to send them to just any school, but to find a program where they can grow both as a player and as a person. I look for environments that are supportive, competitive, and aligned with the athlete’s academic and athletic goals. I also consider the school’s history, coaching philosophy, culture, and overall fit to ensure it’s a place where the athlete can truly thrive.

What does a day in the life of a collegiate advisor look like?

A day in the life of a collegiate advisor involves connecting with athletes, understanding their goals, and guiding them through the recruiting process. It includes reviewing player profiles, discussing potential opportunities, and helping athletes identify programs that align with their academic and athletic aspirations.

There is also a strong focus on communication that is staying in touch with athletes and families, collaborating with fellow advisors, and continuously learning about different college programs and recruiting trends. Each day is centered around mentorship, strategy, and helping athletes move closer to finding the right fit for their future.

What is one moment of your career that you are proud of?

One of the proudest moments of my career was helping my former team, Kawempe Muslim Ladies FC, win the Uganda Women Elite League title for the fourth consecutive time — a league that has now transitioned into the FUFA Women Super League. I scored the lone goal that secured the championship, and it’s a moment I will never forget. That goal still feels like it happened yesterday.

With experience competing at both the collegiate and national team levels, Tracy brings a unique perspective to the recruitment process. Having navigated high-level soccer herself, she understands the challenges athletes face and the importance of finding the right fit both on and off the field. As part of the OPSM collegiate advising team, she is dedicated to guiding athletes with honesty, insight, and mentorship to help them reach their full potential.
